To everyone on my friends list still bitching about it - it's over. Get over it. You've been bitching for the last four years and that lost us the election. Yes, that's right. It's your fault. The Bush campaign should have been a fucking joke. It should have been the Carter administration of Republicans. It's not like Reagan where the economy was great and his only opponent ran on a platform to raise taxes. It wasn't like Bush/Dukakis where Democrats elected the blandest politician they could. Kerry is a personable guy. Intelligent and well spoken. Gratned there's an anti-intellectual bias in America that makes us suspicious of someone that carries himself like he's TOO smart (the egghead label) but that wasn't the issue.

The issue was the attitude among liberals stolen from the leftwing assholes that went "only a moron from bumfuck, Idaho would think of voting for Bush" and surprise, surprise - the independents, moderates and basically undecided voters that were thinking about voting for Bush reacted with "fuck you too" and actually voted for Bush. Of course the other issue was terrorism. It's never a good idea to answer a question "so what are you going to do about these motherfuckers that are planning on killing us" with "Bush is bad. He took us into a war that we didn't need to fight" - because not only is it an evasion, but it also makes you sound like a moron. Even doing the wrong thing is doing something.

2002 could be chalked up to this whole "well why do they hate us? Maybe we should understand that. If only we blow up Israel and force Starbucks to stop colonizing Syria they will all love us and cuddle us and make fuzzy wuzzy bunnies together" attitude that was confused with the Democrats (or the fact that many liberals had that attitude and didn't vote Democrat because they knew that their Democratic representatives and senators were more inclined to support active military roles in dealing with Bin Laden and Co. - [livejournal.com profile] nihilistic_kid still takes that approach in this election, but he's a commie so you can't really account for taste.) 2004 is just sad because it could have been a victory.

Hey, I want to bitch and moan and shoot Republicans too - well some of them, but I also want to win elections. ANd the latter takes precedent over the former. So fuck it, we lost. Figure out why and move on.

I guess it's that whole midwestern "shut the fuck up, get over it and move on" attitude.

The south and the midwest were going to vote for Bush no matter what, because he represents them, Kerry is a catholic from the North, the red states would never vote for someone like that, thats why bush won.

True. The Northeast is almost always considered as the states of the elitist assholes. Southerners and Midwesterners mistrust them, but the Midwest has a fairly interesting version of liberalism. It's all that "you don't fuck with me and I won't fuck with you" kind of attitude that leads Minnesota of all places to be the interracial dating capital of America (and our gay pride parades have less guys in golden diapers acting like they have to prove that they are gayer than thou)

So I'm not going to write off the Midwest as Republican strongholds. Especially since many of the Bush states were close (ohio for example) And I'm from Minnesota where we elected Wellstone - I'm feeling damn snide about that these days. Yeah, we did it - the bumfuck nowhere state - we're the ones that elected the most liberal senator in the senate. That and the REplacements and Bob Dylan and Prince and we're superior to all you East Coast bastards.

Not you specifically.

I'm just aghast. America is under threat of attack because of its belligerence and constant interfering with other countries (and I put the UK in that category too).

The Republicans constantly seem to paint America as this poor little country surrounded by voracious hordes. (Obviously, Reagan's appeal about Nigaragua being two day's march from Texas was hoot number one). You are empire and your vassals are going to eventually resent it too much. The more heavy handed the repression, the more violent the backlash.

I'm gonna go and hug a tree now. Then maybe shoot a bunny.

But bitching is what I do! So throw me a bone here, what AM I allowed to bitch about? Bad traffic in Houston? Please? Cause seriously, it's really really bad, and short of walking 15 miles each way to work and never leaving my house, I'm stuck with it. And how about my uppity bitch of a co-worker?..I'm not allowed to kill her or anything, yet she annoys and pisses me off on a daily basis, so I feel that occasional venting is called for. I gotta bitch about SOMETHING!

Just let me know.

Let the blame game begin.

Sadly, you can no more prove your thesis then I can mine (electronic voting machines that were demonstrably unsecure, and had no verifiable paper trail probabably made all the difference in a few swing states... If you only need to change 1% of the vote, who's gonna know?-- silent coup).

Get back to the hard work of making the world a better place. There's nothing to see here.

Dear Democratic Party:

STOP BEING SO WHIPPED BY YOUR GRIZZLY SECOND-WAVE WIVES AND RUN A FUCKING PRO-LIFE CANDIDATE OR WE'RE ALL TOAST.

Damn it, that's exactly what I was thinking. Some folks don't know when to shut up, and it alienated the middle. I wrote my own little diatribe about it in my journal.

Liberals kill themselves. They need to learn the game better.

shut the fuck up, get over it and move on

If we "shut the fuck up" and "get over it," we silence ourselves. The price of freedom is "eternal vigilance," according to T.J., and to some degree, that means "constant bitching."

War's brewing. In the next four years, we may have to fight tooth-and-nail for basic rights and freedoms that we'd thought people had already fought and died for. It depresses me.

Thank you for letting me invade your journal. :)
