Darn

Christopher Reeve is dead which probably is news to no one. But there I was making fun of Jacques Derrida for deconstructing his pancreas, and someone that I actually like dies. Then again I think it was only a matter of time. Still I wanted to see him run a marathon. Give everyone else hope. Not that everyone else is breaking their necks but just in case that happens. It's the same reason why I give money to those cancer funds. I don't plan on getting it but the possibility scares the hell out of me, so I might as well give money.

Which leads to an interesting interpretation of the line in Pirke Avos about how at 90 the man is like a corpse - the happy spin on such a grim line is that at 90 you no longer fear getting cancer or breaking your neck. Breaking your hip will kill you (although hopefully that's not what's happening to an old friend from back home who broke his hip and has been sick ever since - made it to 90 very healthy but after one slip it has been pretty touch and go)

But now Margot Kidder is guest starring on Smallville so that's pretty much the Superman guest stars. Unless Gene Hackman suddenly shows up as Lex Luther's new mentor...

Ok - new article about Paul Westerberg at http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/06/celeb.paul.westerberg.ap/index.html - mostly about what he's been doing - those solo albums in his basement - and they are pretty damn good - at least the Blues one that he did under a different name. I had to sell mine before I moved but I'm going to buy a new one. And if the documentary was any indication, the other one is great too.

Anyhow he was talking about how he wanted to get the Replacements back together for a benefit concert and he said that the three members were either busy or didn't have the time.

Did Chris Mars or Slim Dunlap die? Well that's too bad if they did, however it sounds like Westerberg just decided to forget about a member. Sure, Slim Dunlap replaced Bob Stinson when Stinson went into his alcoholic spiral but he was still a member and he was around for Pleased to Meet Me which was one of the best (well half of that album is the best Replacements record ever - the second half is crap - although I'm really in love with Skyway as a song for Minnesotans) so what gives? Unless Chris Mars is getting the snob treatment - since he DID leave before the "official" breakup citing the band's transformation from punk icon to lounge act (still can't stand that CD with the sheep on the cover) but it's still odd.

Of course it can be chalked up to Paul Westerberg's ADD and the permanent state of confusion that he seems to be in most of the time (even after he stopped drinking)

Half Hour

Half hour until the idiot lefty teacher. More papers on Doublethink and DOublespeak. More crap. And if she doesn't agree with it she'll talk about changing definitons and how sometimes a definition of a word just changes - although her legal definition of death changing was utter crap. The woman doesn't even know the difference between postmodernism and deconstructionism (did I mention that I'm happy that Derrida is dead - well not happy, I'm sure his family misses him - but that's the last of the bunch - bury them and forget about em) and I could have interrupted her babbling with "yes and if you think about it the definition of peace can be war" - since this whole fucking assignment is a case of "Bush is bad" and I agree that Bush is bad, but we're slipping into a 1984 tyranny? No I don't think so.

SO now she's pushing Deconstructionism which is pretty much just Doublethink that suits her leftwing bias. Yippie.

I wonder if I could come to class drunk. Would that make it more tedious or more fun?

But if she brings up abortion one more time I'm just going to interrupt by saying that abortions are tasty in soup. I swear I'm just so sick of her bringing that up as an example and babbling on about it ad infinitum (even if I agree with her - this is the worst part - even when I agree with this stupid woman I know that she's just babbling)
