196.No Matter How I Look at it, It's you guys fault I'm not Popular # 1 by Nico Tanigawa - So I'm starting to see that two big manga themes are guy getting possessed by demons to fight demons and girl trying to get over her social anxiety to make friends. Or maybe those are the two major themes that get popular in America. Anyhow, this is the the girl overcoming social anxiety theme and unlike Komi Can't Communicate (which I love, obviously), this one is about a girl who is actually trying to socialize and failing miserably. The main theme of Komi is that Komi is pretty and so she's the most popular girl in school despite not knowing how to talk to anyone. In this one, Tomoko is just inept and it's way more painful than anything coming from Komi. Tomoko is just a disaster and wow doesn't that bring back memories. Like she wants to joke and comes up iwth "I gotta take a shit" and she can't even deal with a friend who became suddenly very beautiful in the absence. She can't even play video games with her brother. I'm not sure if I will keep reading it, but I will definitely read the next two books.
197.Chainsaw Man 9 by Tatsuki Fujimoto - Oh fuck. Oh fuck this one hits hard. Seriously this was the comic book about a dude who chopped up demons with fucking chainsaws coming out of his head and arms. This was the comic about Denji, the kid who wanted to touch a boob. And now we have Denji being forced to fight and kill a man that has taken him in. But let's go back a bit. this book starts with PTSD of Power. Power and Denji have become friends. They even had a positive impact on their friend (and now he's their friend) Aki who goes home to see his family graves and finds that they are distracting enough to make him not hate the experience.
And then Makima makes Aki get possessed by the gun demon. And Denji has to fight him. But to make it even more heartbreaking, Aki doesn't know what he's doing. When the scene shifts to Aki's perspective, Aki thinks he's a little kid having a snowball fight with his friend. Aki has forgotten all the pain of losing his family and cutting himself off from the world to avenge his family and now Aki is killing thousands of people.
And Denji kills him. That's the end. That's the fucking ending. I have the next few issues but fucking hell, this is a tragic fucking comic. Damnit, Fujimoto, you are breaking my heart.
