I have had a bit of an attitude about people misreading the Book of Job for years, ever since I took that one college class where I understood just enough to realize that the standard interpretation of Job that I got from my Christian upbringing was utter shit. Job does NOT trust in God and keep the faith. He's outright demanding that God comes down and actually explains himself and you'd think that G-d would go "Hey sorry, but I thought you were nice adn then one of my angels had to do his job and well here we are" but instead gives one of the most majestic, sarcastic and aggressive answers. Beginning with the "where were you when I created the heavens and the earth" and going into a poem about the entire universe like wild man. Totally fucking killer leviathans and behemoths.
So here's the irony or the hypocrisy. I'll go with hypocrisy. Even though I seem to know more about Job than your average sermon, I have yet to read the whole thing. I might have more knowledge than the prologue and epilogue, but I do know little more than the rough outline of the arguments between Job and his friends and the ultimate G-d speech.
So there you go. I'm reading Job. So far I'm familiar with the material. BUt it will get more challenging and I'll get kind of stupid and eventually someone who actually knows this better will correct me.
